Academic integrity in practice
I am Dr Thomas Lancaster, a Principal Teaching Fellow in Computing and Senior Tutor (PGT) at Imperial College London. My work focuses on academic integrity, contract cheating, plagiarism, assessment and the changing role of technology in education.
With Robert Clarke, I introduced the term “contract cheating” into academic use in 2006. My publications examine plagiarism detection, the contract-cheating industry, assessment, academic-integrity policy and generative AI.
At Imperial, I teach Researching Academic Integrity in an Artificial Intelligence Driven World, support postgraduate taught students as Senior Tutor and lead computing project modules. I have also worked with student partners on academic-integrity research.
I am a member of the QAA Academic Integrity Advisory Group and ICAI’s International Day of Action for Academic Integrity Committee. I coordinate the London and South East Academic Integrity Network.
